About Me
I emigrated from Jamaica when I was five. Raised by a single mother, I wanted for nothing. This isn’t to say that we were rich (we weren’t); rather, it’s to say that my mother did her best — in that way only single mothers can — to provide for me.
I was a happy kid, and I’m fortunate enough to have grown into a happy man.
I entered university as an English major. When I learned that an English major had no future outside of law school, I switched to the Economics department. I did surprisingly well in the math and statistics courses— that was more a result of hard work than any genetic disposition to numbers, I assure you.
In 2020, I applied to hundreds of jobs and heard back from a handful. The labor market was fiercely competitive. Something about a global pandemic.
In January 2021, I joined the Bank of Canada (Canada’s central bank). I work as a research assistant in the Financial Stability Department’s Climate Analysis Team. I’ve made plenty of mistakes during my career; however, I’d like to believe that I’ve had plenty of accomplishments, as well — that’s how life is, I think.
I write on Medium to share my musings on personal finance, economics, and data science. I’m fortunate that I’m smart enough to have gotten a handful of people who agree with my articles (and an equal number who disagree).
I’ll update this when I have more interesting things to write.
